HANGOVER

A hangover is your body’s reaction to toxicity. When alcohol breaks down in your liver it produces acetaldehyde. This by-product of alcohol metabolism is more toxic than alcohol itself.‎ What’s more is women tend to have longer-lasting hangovers than men because they produce less of the enzyme that breaks down the alcohol.‎‎

Alcohol inhibits the natural stimulant glutamine, causing d body to increase production of glutamine; causing the brain to remain active even after you have already passed out. Headaches and vomiting is your body’s way of telling you that your stomach is producing too much hydrochloric acid and it’s time to pump that stuff out!

Alcohol is a diuretic, which means it increases urination. It also decreases your production of the anti-diuretic hormone, which the body uses to absorb water. Not only does excess alcohol dehydrate your body, but it also dehydrates the skin, causing it to look duller. Alcohol strips d body of essential vitamins that keep the skin looking vibrant. Dehydration makes the skin irritated. Blood sugar levels are affected by drinking and this can make your body feel weak and tired as it tries to expel the alcohol.

Hungover people don't smell too good either; the liver processes most of the alcohol you drink, but some of it leaves the body straight through your breath, sweat and urine. Your body gets rid of one standard drink per hour so there are a couple of simple things you can do to prevent and relieve hangovers. If you didn't manage to take your make-up off, you'll be more prone to spots too. Never mind your glassy, bloodshot eyes. Why not cut down on alcohol and help preserve those good looks?

Moderation is the key word.

WHAT ARE HOME REMEDIES FOR HANGOVER?

1. Athletes love bananas because they’re packed with potassium – and that’s the same reason why they make a star appearance in our elixir. The body loses lots of potassium after heavy drinking, and this will help you replenish. Bananas also contain a balanced mixture of fructose and glucose, which will help metabolize the toxins and restore glycogen levels.

2. For centuries, people have used ginger to combat seasickness and nausea. So it’s a key player here. Ginger also aids in digestion and calms the stomach.

3. Coconut water has the 5 electrolytes that your body needs: potassium, sodium, magnesium, phosphorus, calcium. Interesting to note, coconut water is so similar to our blood that it has been used intravenously when conventional IV fluids are unavailable. Alcohol depletes our body of precious minerals and dehydrates d system. Coconut water is d perfect antidote and powerful rehydrator.
